The Janet Drouin Memorial began in 2009 as a one-day event to raise funds in memory of Janet Drouin, a beloved volunteer, historian, statistician, and scorer for the WMSGA and a strong supporter of junior golf.

In 2013, the event became the Janet Drouin Memorial Open Championship, a two-day event to raise money for the Janet Drouin Memorial Fund. Since then the prize structure has evolved and now recognizes an overall champion, the player with the lowest net score, and, depending on participation, a junior champion. Prizes are also awarded for first and second place -- both gross and net -- in four flights.
